Tourism and Hospitality Added to Critical Sectors by Minister for Immigration, Australia
Australia’s Minister for Immigration has added tourism and hospitality to the list of critical sectors.
Changes to the Subclass 408 COVID-19 Pandemic Event visa and the Subclass 500 Student visa for jobs in the hospitality and tourism industries were announced this week by the Minister for Immigration.
Pandemic Event Visa for COVID-19 Temporary visa holders employed or planning to work in tourism and hospitality will be eligible to apply for a 12-month Subclass 408 visa starting immediately.
Obtaining a Student Visa Student visa holders working in tourism and hospitality will now work for more than 40 hours a fortnight. They’ve been added to a list of sectors that include:
Those with a RACS ID or a NAPS ID who work for an aged care Approved Provider or a Commonwealth-funded aged care service provider before September 8, 2020.
Those who work for a licensed provider of the National Disability Insurance Scheme
Those engaged in a health-related course and helping to fight COVID-19, as directed by health officials
Those who work in the agriculture industry
