The 2018 edition of the QS World University Rankings include 37 Australian Universities among the world’s best; proof yet again that an Australian education is regarded to be top notch! With 7 universities in the top 100 places and 10 more in the top 300, we can see why many international students make a beeline for the quality education they can receive in this beautiful country.
We introduce you to the top 10 universities in the country.
Australian National University (ANU)
Ranking 20th in the world in the QS Rankings, ANU is known for its excellent infrastructure, highly regarded faculty and quality education. Located in Canberra, ANU is the only university to be created by the Parliament of Australia and has two Australian Prime Ministers among its alumni.
University of Melbourne
Founded in 1853, the University of Melbourne is known to make distinctive contributions to society in fields like learning and teaching, research and engagement. For several years now, this University has been counted among the leading universities in the world and has this year received joint 41st ranking alongside South Korea’s KAIST.
University of New South Wales (UNSW)
As one of Australia’s leading research and teaching universities, UNSW prides itself in the range and high quality of the teaching programs. Ranked 45th in the world in the QS rankings, UNSW has produced more millionaires than any other Australian university and aims at being Australia’s global university by 2025.
University of Queensland (UQ)
Jointly placed at rank 47 this year, UQ is mainly located in Brisbane and is a founding member of the Group of Eight- a coalition of Australian universities known for their research and innovation.
University of Sydney
Founded in 1850, the University of Sydney was Australia’s first university and is this year ranked at number 50 in the world. Well regarded as one of the world’s leading universities, this university is also a member of the Group of Eight and offers a broad range and depth of programs.
Monash University
Coming in at 60th place in the world is Monash University, located in scenic Melbourne. This University was founded in 1958 and has overseas campuses in Malaysia, Italy, India as well as China.
University of Western Australia (UWA)
With national and internationally recognised achievements, this West Australian university is in joint 93rd place in the global top 100. Located in Perth, UWA has 24000 students on its rolls.
University of Adelaide
One of the oldest cities in Australia, the University of Adelaide was established in 1874 and is also a Group of Eight member. Across the five campuses in South Australia are enrolled over 25000 students, who are undertaking programs at various levels in five faculties.
University of Technology, Sydney (UTS)
Besides its strong technology programs, UTS is also sought out for its education in subjects such as nursing, art and design, sports and law and offers inquiry-based approaches to learning and research.
University of Newcastle (UON)
Australia’s 10th highest ranked university, UON comes in at a joint global rank of 224 and is well regarded in subjects such as architecture, mining engineering, nursing and sociology. Students from over 100 countries study here, in programs that integrate study with practical experience, paid employment and research.
